About

Kate Powers has more than 25 years experience transforming the caliber of leaders, and creating change for organizations that want to serve the greater good, have sustainable results and overcome the challenges of the 21st century.

Kate is a pioneering, award-winning educator in the field of change and leadership. Her diverse skills include management consulting, project management, teaching, strategic advising, curriculum design, group facilitation, coaching, mentoring, writing, expressive arts and public speaking. An enthusiastic teacher, she is committed to the practice of innovative teaching to increase learning and retention for both children and adults.

In college, Kate studied education and psychology until she fell in love with geology. She earned a BS in Geology and a MS in Marine Studies. Her work in the 1970s and 1980s as a geologist and educator led her to help communities and organizations mitigate damages from floods and coastal storms. Kate developed an easy, fun style teaching complex geologic processes in simple, practical terms that motivated people to change the way they organized their communities around lakes, rivers and coastlines.

In the mid-1980s, Kate returned to her enthusiasm for education and psychology, developing extensive experience and expertise in the study and implementation of change. As a recognized expert in the psychology, visioning and implementation of change, Kate works in the diverse fields of education, health care, environment, science, energy, finance, real estate and government. She has consulted and taught courses for the University of California and Stanford University for more than 15 years.

Kate is passionate about using cross-cultural tools and principles of nature in her work. She has worked in Rwanda, Africa, with men, women and children survivors of the 1994 genocide, using the expressive arts for healing and empowerment. She also served with Desmond Tutu on the international peace conference, “Quest for Global Healing” in Bali. Kate is a board member of IEATA, The International Expressive Arts Therapy Association, which uses the expressive arts processes for personal and community
transformation. In addition, she was the founder and first executive director of Spirit at Work, northern California Chapter, an organization dedicated to cultivating values of integrity, trust, respect and courage in the workplace.

"Kate is a person who truly 'walks the talk.' She is grounded, honest, open, caring, talented, intelligent, flexible and mature. She is a great role model for leaders."
